Sava has a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 30+ years of experience in risk assessment, loss prevention, safety engineering and technical management in the oil and gas industry, both offshore and onshore, including shale gas, 12 years of which were in the employment of a major Certifying and Verification Authority. Throughout his career he has worked on projects for over 70 design and operating companies on their facilities in 26 countries. He is known in the industry as an innovator and international expert; he pioneered the application of a multi-discipline, risk and integrity based approach and achieved multi-million pound savings for several operating companies.
With more than 30 years of experience, Sava has performed, as an HAZOP, HAZID and ALARP Studies Chairman, Project Manager, HSE Manager, Lead HSE Engineer, Risk Assessor, Engineering Analyst or Loss Prevention specialist assessments of project and safety risks, safety design and engineering and independent verification tasks for oil and gas facilities, and petrochemical plants including piled and gravity platforms, floating production and storage vessels, pipelines, drilling rigs, terminals, refineries, LNG and gas-to-oil plants, chemical plants and civil nuclear installations. He has specialised experience in the optimisation of fire and explosion protection and in the application of state-of-the-art methods for fire and explosion protection in detailed design resulting in reductions of CAPEX and OPEX. He has participated in the research and preparation of standards and guidance for the response of structures and pressurised equipment to explosions and fire. He prepared and lectured at Continual Professional Development courses on Safety Engineering. Sava has a working knowledge of the Safety Regulations, Standards and Guidelines for the oil and gas industry in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, Canada, The Netherlands, Australia, Mexico, Malaysia, Nigeria, Russia and Algeria. He managed consultancy projects up to the single project value of £3 million (in today's currency) and was responsible, in the position of Director, for the technical and financial performance of a consultancy company division with £6 million turnover (in today's currency). He has managed and participated in the preparation of Safety Cases for offshore installations in the North Sea.
Sava has held corporate and contract positions of Engineering Analyst, Process Safety Engineer, Lead HSE Engineer, Safety Manager, Consultancy Manager, Loss Prevention Manager, HSE Manager, Senior Principal Engineer, Chief Engineer, Project Manager, Divisional Director and Managing Director.
To date Sava has worked in the United Kingdom, Norway, Australia, The Netherlands and Malaysia. He has authored more than 30 scientific papers on Quantitative Risk Assessment, risk based design and pressure systems safety presented at various conferences and seminars.
